Harnessing the Power of Combined Technologies for the Near Future of Work
A Nonference
Explore emerging technologies, evolving labour markets, and the new realities shaping the future of work.
Collaborative, participant-driven experience blending dialogue, experimentation, and shared discovery.
Turn ideas into action through interactive exchanges, creative problem-solving, and collective innovation.
Artificial Intelligence is no longer evolving in isolation. Across the world of work, AI is increasingly interacting with robotics, extended realities, distributed ledgers, neurotechnologies, geodata, cybersecurity, biotechnology, and other emerging fields.
At ITCILO, our work on AI has gradually expanded into a broader reflection on how different technological developments interact and reinforce one another. We call this phenomenon AI+.
AI+ explores the combined effect of these technologies on skills, labour markets, enterprises, policy, and learning. The challenge is no longer simply learning about individual tools. It is understanding their combined social, economic and labour market effects.
To sustain engagement with this reality, we are convening a Nonference that will bring together the ITCILO community and key labour market stakeholders to examine how these technological intersections are already reshaping the near future of work.
A dynamic, highly interactive experience that blends elements such as challenge labs, co-creation sessions, and strategic dialogues, while opening up to innovation ecosystems (e.g. structured engagement with startups, applied research centres, digital platforms, and non-traditional labour market actors showcasing tested solutions and business models).
It is also a space where formats themselves become part of the experience, including more visual and interactive approaches, in line with the strong preference for practice-oriented, engaging learning expressed by the community.
Over four immersive days in Turin, participants will move beyond passive listening into co-creation, experimentation, strategic dialogue, and hands-on exploration of the “Near Future of Work.”
The AI+ Nonference is designed to:
Understand how converging technologies are already transforming labour markets, learning systems, enterprises and governance.
Engage with concrete initiatives, tested solutions, and practical experiences already being deployed across sectors and regions.
Work collaboratively to conceptualize policies, pilot initiatives, advocacy strategies, prototypes and locally adaptable solutions.
Join a growing international community working at the intersection of technology, decent work and social justice.
The event is structured around three interconnected policy areas:
Skills development, lifelong learning, reskilling, upskilling, and capacity-building systems that respond to labour market disruption.
Labour market transitions, employment policies, labour market institutions, and evidence-based responses to technological change.
Sustainable enterprises, innovation, responsible business practices, entrepreneurship, and SME development.
The Nonference is structured over four days, moving from awareness to concrete action.
Introductory sessions and contextual discussions on emerging technological trends, challenges, and transformations.
Interactive showcases, curated presentations, and opportunities to explore innovative initiatives and solutions.
Open demonstrations, innovation showcases, and engagement with practitioners, companies, startups, and applied research actors.
Hands-on pathways leading to concrete outputs, such as prototypes, awareness-raising tools, policy ideas, advocacy plans, recordings, or concept designs.
The AI+ Nonference is designed for stakeholders shaping labour market responses to technological change, including:
Participants who attend the full Nonference will receive a digital certificate of participation issued by the ITCILO.
