What is the USP2030 East African learning journey?

Launched in 2016, the Global Partnership for Universal Social Protection (USP2030) brings together representatives of governments, social partners, international organizations and civil society organizations committed to achieving universal social protection, a cornerstone of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDG target 1.3).

Co-chaired by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Bank, USP2030 is a unique international forum in the field of social protection. Its key strategic priorities include: advocacy; knowledge development and sharing; and technical exchanges.

Designed to include country perspectives and expertise in the global social protection agenda, the USP2030 East African Learning Journey featured: an introductory Sub-regional conference; two Workshops for an in-depth discussion on social protection issues relevant to the sub-region; a Training course on Advocacy and communication for social protection; and Individual e-coaching sessions. The capacity-building events also sensitized participants to structure universal social protection systems that promote gender equality and the inclusion of persons with disability.

This Closing conference aims at re-connecting representatives from governments, employers, workers and civil society organizations, within and between countries, thus stimulating peer-to-peer learning. The conference will also provide highlights from the participants’ experiences during the learning journey.

  • Exchange experiences with the East African Learning Journey and draw lessons from this for future USP2030 engagements;
  • Highlight commitments made in the process of the Learning Journey;
  • Raise awareness about the USP2030 partnership and its activities.
