Seafarers continue to face substantial challenges in securing the protection of their labour rights, particularly exacerbated in the context of the Covid -19 pandemic. Widely known as the "seafarers' bill of rights", the ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) is unique in its effect to safeguard seafarers labour rights, quality shipping and to guide future Court decisions. The 2-day programme is designed to engage Lawyers, Judges, Legal practitioners and Academics in immersive debate to discuss: - The guiding role of the ILO Maritime Labour Convention (MLC, 2006) in advancing decent work in Maritime industry (law & practice). - Working and living conditions in the maritime industry: Main issues leading to litigation. - The current policy debate at international level and case law at national level. - Challenges & opportunities for labour and maritime lawyers and legal practitioners.
