The course will provide the participants with a panorama of current approaches to the social security inspection as well as the most relevant tools, resources and strategies. The course is built around the interaction between social security, occupational safety and labour inspection. Participants will have an opportunity to explore practical issues surrounding the preparation, conduction, and follow-up of inspection visits as well as accident investigations. This training activity also embraces the human rights approach to social security and protection against certain life risks and social needs.

This training course will offer participants the opportunity to: 

  • Discover ILO standards, which establish the principles, functions, and main characteristics of labor inspection; 
  • Describe the principles, functions, and main characteristics of labor inspection; 
  • Strengthen the capacity of labor inspectors to fulfill their role in monitoring compliance with social security regulations; 
  • Apply key principles in the preparation, conduct, and follow-up of an inspection visit; 
  • Examine the interaction between social security, occupational safety, and labor inspection; 
  • Become familiar with best practices in social security inspection in selected countries.

  • The course will include a pre-workshop learning phase, followed by a 5-day residential session at the ITCILO campus in Turin; 
  • The eCampus online learning platform is designed to enhance the capacity-building experience and provide training materials as well as other multimedia and reading resources; 
  • Pre- and post-course activities are designed to facilitate individual learning and the practical application of knowledge. 

Note: For the 2026 edition of the course, the applicable fees were €1,840 for tuition and €755 for subsistence, amounting to a total of €2,595. The fees for the 2027 edition will be reviewed and are expected to be confirmed around October 2026.
