Turin School of Development to Open 2025–2026 Year with Focus on Fair Transitions, Technology and Social Justice

Turin, 21 May 2026. The Turin School of Development (TSD), the academic arm of the International Training Centre of the ILO (ITCILO), will officially inaugurate its 2025–2026 year on Friday, 22 May, with a high-level event dedicated to the theme “Fair Transitions, Technology and Social Justice.”

The event, hosted at the United Nations Turin Campus, will bring together institutional representatives, university partners, international experts and students from across the world to discuss the transformations reshaping labour markets and the growing impact of technology and artificial intelligence on societies and the future of work.

Opening remarks will be delivered by Mr Christophe Perrin, Director of the ITCILO and Director of the Turin School of Development, alongside Rector Cristina Prandi of the University of Turin and Rector Stefano Corgnati of the Polytechnic University of Turin, together with representatives of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Piedmont Region, the City of Turin and Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.

A central moment of the programme will be the keynote address by Professor Marcello Ienca, Professor of Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience at the Technical University of Munich, who will speak on Human-AI Collaboration and Neurorights — one of the most pressing ethical and governance questions emerging in the age of artificial intelligence.

The Turin School of Development currently brings together 197 students from 77 countries across seven Master’s programmes dedicated to international development, social justice and decent work.

The event will also feature testimonials and reflections from students representing the School’s global learning community.

The Turin School of Development is jointly managed by the ITCILO, the University of Turin and the Polytechnic University of Turin, combining the expertise of the United Nations system with academic excellence to prepare the next generation of international professionals and policymakers.
