Introduction to the course

Youth employment is a key challenge for inclusive and sustainable development. Young people face higher unemployment, poorer job quality and more difficult transitions from education to work—challenges that are further shaped by global transformations such as digitalization, climate change and demographic change. 

This self-paced course introduces the ILO’s approach to promoting youth employment, combining analysis of labour market challenges with practical insights into policies and emerging opportunities, with a strong focus on inclusion, gender equality and decent work.

How is this course organized?

The course is self-paced and structured into three progressive modules: 

Module 1 – Understanding the Youth Employment Challenge 
Module 2 – Promoting Youth Employment: Policies and Solutions 
Module 3 – Promoting Youth Employment in Emerging Sectors 
 

Each module combines conceptual explanations with practical examples, interactive exercises and knowledge checks to support learning and reflection.  

Duration and modality

The course is self-guided and can be completed at your own pace. 

You will need around 4-5 hours to complete the course. Upon completion of the modules and a short test, you will receive a an ITCILO digital certificate of completion.
