ITCILO teamed up with Cornell University to create a course on disability in the workplace. In this interactive video-based course, employers, experts and persons with disabilities themselves share their latest insights, knowledge and experiences to enable you to identify the competitive advantage of including people with disabilities in your workforce, to create a business case, and to plan, implement and audit your disability inclusion strategy.

People with disabilities account for 15% of the world’s population, that’s one billion people, and yet, they are significantly more unemployed and under-employed than their nondisabled peers.

People with disabilities represent a driven, qualified and untapped source of talent for businesses and employers, who are recognizing that disability inclusion in the workplace represents a competitive advantage.

This 90-minutes training is designed to help employers and their representatives – such as HR professionals – address this changing perspective about disability inclusion and seize this opportunity for sustainable growth, as well as enable them to design and implement a disability inclusion strategy.

What will I learn?

By taking this interactive, video-based course you will gain the latest insights and knowledge from employers, experts and persons with disabilities themselves from across the world on how to identify the competitive advantage of including people with disabilities in your workforce, how to build a business case, and how to plan, implement and audit your disability inclusion strategy.

At the end of this training, you will be able to:

  • Identify the competitive advantage of including people with disabilities in your workforce;
  • Build a business case on how including people with disabilities will be a significant advantage for your organization; and
  • Plan the first steps of implementing your disability inclusion strategy in terms of recruitment, hiring, career advancement, retention, accessibility and accommodations.
How is the course organized?

The course is composed of five Units:

  1. Welcome and Overview,
  2. Disability Basics,
  3. Disability Inclusion as a Business Strategy,
  4. Planning Your Disability Inclusion Strategy,
  5. Practical Application and Next Steps. 

 

The 90-minute course includes videos of international subject matter experts and people with disabilities, checklists, inter-active quizzes, and  exercises. For a small investment of your time, this course can get you started on how to make disability inclusion a reality in your organization.
