Introduction to the course

The aim of this brief self-paced eLearning course is to support ILO Participatory Gender Audit Certified Facilitators to validate or renew their Certification. This Certification confirms that participants possess the technical and methodological competencies required to facilitate high-quality ILO Participatory Gender Audits. The Certification is valid for five-year period. To renew it, ILO PGA Certified Facilitators must either have conducted at least one PGA during the validity period or complete this short refresher course.

Who attends this course?

This eLearning course applies only to those participants who have already obtained Certification as Facilitators of ILO Participatory Gender Audits, granted by the ILO/ITC-ILO, and who need to renew it based on the criteria established by the Certification Programme.

Overall objectives

Through this self-paced eLearning course, participants will be able to:

  • Reassess the competencies and skills required to serve as an ILO PGA Certified Facilitator, with a view to renewing their Certification.
  • Demonstrate mastery of the ILO Participatory Gender Audit methodology, including its key concepts, core principles, objectives, and tools.
  • Confirm their participation in the ITCILO Community of Practice, engaging with other ILO PGA Certified Facilitators worldwide to exchange knowledge and expertise.

Throughout the course, ILO PGA Certified Facilitator will confirm that they continue to possess the technical and methodological competencies required to conduct high-quality Participatory Gender Audits in accordance with the ILO methodology. Upon successful completion of a series of self-assessment tests, the Certification as ILO PGA Certified Facilitator will be renewed and remains valid for a further five-year period.

Course methodology

Candidates to the Certification renewal will have to follow a self-paced eLearning phase which include the following components:

  • Online Learning: where they will review the PGA fundamentals, revisiting the key principles and core elements of the Participatory Gender Audit methodology.
  • Practical simulation with a case study: where they will be invited to prove their expertise through the five steps of the PGA methodology (desk review, qualitative survey, interviews, participatory workshops and the final PGA report) as ILO PGA Certified Facilitator. This simulation is based on a practical scenario, allowing to apply the PGA methodology in a realistic context.
  • Assessment phase: For each five steps of the PGA methodology, participants will complete a self-assessment test to reinforce their understanding and ensure a structured learning/refreshing process.

To enrich the learning experience, the course includes practical exercises and simulations supported by new technologies, including AI-based avatars. These interactive elements are designed to make the learning process more engaging and practical.

Candidates will also have access to a range of resources, including testimonials, good practices, and lessons learned from others ILO PGA Certified Facilitators, members of the PGA Community of Practice. These materials provide valuable insights drawn from real-world experiences.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the assessment component, the renewed ILO PGA Certified Facilitator will be able to:

  • Apply a gender perspective to analytical work 
  • Detect and map discrimination in the workplace
  • Identify strategies for advocacy and capacity-building to promote inclusive workplaces
  • Strengthen communication competencies and organizational capacity to coordinate a Participatory Gender Audit in line with the ILO methodology
  • Analyse accountability, evaluation, and monitoring systems and tools related to gender equality and organizational change management 
  • Identify emerging challenges and propose areas for improvement
Certification maintenance policy

When the course is successfully completed, participants will receive a new digital credential as “ILO PGA Certified Facilitator” recognizing the new achievement. The Certification will be officially renewed for further 5 years with an updated expiration date. If no Participatory Gender Audit is conducted within this timeframe, candidates will be required to renew the Certification again.
