Promotion of youth employment in fragile settings

ITCILO, the VV Giri National Labour Institute, ILO Kabul and ILO New Delhi renew their joint efforts to build the capacities of ILO constituents in Afghanistan and India

Participants representing ILO constituents from Afghanistan and India

The course was successfully launched on Monday 6 May in New Delhi, where 27 participants representing ILO constituents from Afghanistan and India were exposed to a range of notions, methods and tools for promoting youth employment in situations of conflict and disaster. The course includes four study visits designed to reinforce the South-South approach to cooperation and knowledge-sharing.

By attending the course, participants will

  • Gain a better understanding of labour market challenges in countries affected by fragility, conflicts and disasters;
  • Be exposed to the ILO’s normative and operational response, including the recently endorsed Recommendation No. 205 on “Employment and decent work for peace and resilience”;
  • Be exposed to effective strategies for youth employment programmes designed to promote peace and build resilience, by studying real-life examples and stories from the field; and
  • Get access to tools and methodologies for promoting employment and decent work for youth in fragile, conflict and disaster situations.
