Since 2013, employers’ organizations around the world have relied on the ITCILO for our Essentials on Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) training package. It has stood the test of time, evolved from just a few modules to today’s 29, and consistently provides organizations with a comprehensive course for its members.

Now, it’s going digital.

Innovation at work

Imagine this: You work at an employers’ organization, and you’re ready to set up this year’s EOSH training for your members. Normally, you’d contact Rachida and Sandro from the Employers’ Activities team, asking to create an online course. The team would prepare the backend, the coordination emails would pile up.

That’s why we imagined something better.

Change scene. Enter the Configurator. Equipped with this new tool, your organization will instead be able to configure the EOSH training course, selecting from the 29 available modules to create a customized online experience for your members.

Even the final exam will be delivered digitally, augmented to reflect only the chosen modules. Successful participants, based on the Employers’ Activities team’s review, will receive their ITCILO certifications.

Same principle, new ownership

In this new system, the principle of the course is the same: ITCILO-certified trainers deliver a course to provide people with EOSH certificates. The innovation lies in moving away from the usual setup—documents, PDFs, presentations—and transforming the course using interactive learning methodologies.

It’s a win-win solution that fits perfectly into our new digital landscape. The employers’ organizations become the new owners of the training course, while the Employers’ Activities team can continue to support them in growing their membership and generating income.

Roadmap for expansion

Post-launch, the plan is to roll out the Configurator for other courses at the Centre, as well. And, long term, the team aims to expand access to the tool for external clients, including UN entities, government ministries, and even private companies.

As the e-learning world moves toward a future that is happening largely online, the ITCILO is well-positioned to be a champion of positive change.

Online open house

On 8 June, the course will be launched. To celebrate and help participants prepare for this year’s format, the Employers’ Activities team has invited more than 100 participants to a digital open house.

Employers’ organizations, EOSH trainers, ILO colleagues, donors, and many more will have access to the platform for two weeks, free of charge. Through webinar sessions hosted by the Employers’ Activities team, participants will learn about the new features, as well as how to navigate and configure the course for success.

Final thoughts

COVID-19 has changed the way we live, learn, and work, but it hasn’t slowed us down. Included in the new EOSH package is a module on the coronavirus, what to do during health crises, and how to safely make the transition back to work.
