Trade unions are operating in a world of work marked by rapid technological change, climate change, growing informalisation, shifting employment relationships, and persistent violations of workers’ rights. These transformations create serious risks for workers and their organizations, but they also open space for renewal, innovation and strategic repositioning.
This self-guided online resource helps workers’ representatives understand how unions are responding to these changes in practice, and how they can strengthen their own capacity to adapt, innovate and act strategically. Grounded in the ILO ACTRAV Trade Unions in Transformation programme, the course combines global evidence, real-world union experiences and practical tools for strategic development.
Participants will explore how unions are organizing new groups of workers, addressing digitalization and climate change, strengthening social dialogue, and building alliances across sectors and borders. The course also introduces strategic foresight as a practical method to anticipate future change and translate insight into action.
Designed as a transversal learning module, the course can stand alone or complement broader training programmes. It is suitable for online delivery and can also support face-to-face or blended learning formats.
Trade union leaders, staff, organizers, educators, and members of women, youth and informal workers’ committees.
