Conciliation/mediation skills are not innate - they require structured learning, self-reflection, and sustained practice. This five-day residential programme at the ITCILO Campus in Turin is the intensive, face-to-face path to certification in conciliation/mediation of labour disputes. It combines Module 1 and Module 2 in a single week - allowing participants to build their knowledge and have their competencies formally assessed against the internationally recognised ITCILO Matrix of Competences, without the need to have previously completed the online Module 1 course. Please note that this course does not grant professional accreditation or imply any right to employment with a dispute resolution body. Places are limited to 18 participants to ensure the quality of coaching and individual tutor attention.

Methodology
This residential course takes place over five intensive days at the ITCILO campus in Turin. All sessions are face-to-face with expert assessors and coaches present throughout. Learning combines: expert-led explanations, plenary discussions, group work, case studies, individual exercises, coached role-plays, and assessed live simulations.
The assessment is structured around three main components :
Role-plays
Two coached and two formally assessed live role-plays in small groups. You act as conciliator/mediator through every stage of the process, guided by preparatory sessions.
Written test
Multiple-choice and short-answer questions assessing your grasp of the key principles, ethics, and processes of conciliation and mediation, and your ability to apply them in practice.
Final Essay
A structured written reflection on your practice as a conciliator/mediator, highlighting your strengths, areas for growth, and concrete actions to keep developing your competencies after the course.

Attendance
Given the nature of the small-group role-play format, 100% attendance at all live sessions is mandatory.
Payment and cancellation

The course fee includes full board accommodation at the ITCILO campus in Turin, routine medical care, medical insurance, and internet access.
Your Questions, Answered
Do I need to have completed Module 1 Online before joining this course?
No. The only prerequisite for this residential programme is the free Introduction to Conciliation/Mediation of Labour Disputes self-paced course. This residential course covers Module 1 and Module 2 in five intensive days — prior completion of the online Module 1 course is not required and would be redundant.
What is the difference between this course and Module 2 Online?
Module 2 Online is a four-week online certification course for participants who have already completed Module 1 Online. This residential programme combines both Module 1 and Module 2 in a single five-day face-to-face format in Turin, and requires only the free introductory self-paced course as a prerequisite. Both formats lead to the same ITCILO Certificate of Achievement, assessed against the same Matrix of Competences. See the comparison table above.
Why is participation limited to 18 participants?
The small cohort size is essential to the quality of the coaching experience. Assessed role-play exercises and individual tutor feedback require close attention that is only possible in a small group setting.
