The growing impact of migration on the world of work is testing current migration management systems. There is emerging concern about the need to better coordinate migration and labour migration policies with those of employment, education and training. This requires cooperation between national education and labour ministries, and with other ministries responsible for migration policy, as well as their counterparts in other countries. This online training will build and strengthen the capacities of practitioners and policymakers to design and implement labour migration policies by giving them access to tools and instruments for evidence-based policymaking on labour migration and for ensuring policy coherence. The training will use an innovative e-learning platform to foster open dialogue between participants from various ministries, representatives of workers' and employers' organizations, and other relevant stakeholders, and build their capacity and skills to promote policy coherence with regard to labour migration at national and regional level. This specialized course will enable you to join a virtual global network of labour migration practitioners, flexibly and without the need to travel.
The course is designed in particular for the Labour Migration Experts Reference Group but it can also be offered to officials and practitioners from ministries dealing with migration, officials and practitioners from the ministries of labour of IGAD member states, representatives of employers and workers' organizations from IGAD member states, and staff of the IGAD Secretariat. Participants should hold positions involved in decision-making directly or in an advisory capacity, and should be interested in applying the ILO guidelines and approach to fair and effective governance of labour migration.
